The First Monday In May- Our top Met Gala picks

Theme for Monday nights Met Gala

Theme for Monday nights Met Gala

Every year we patiently wait for Vogue Magazine's Met Gala.  They call it the Oscars of fashion, and it is for a few reasons.  The main reason would be because it is ALL about the red carpet.  But the true reason for the Gala is to raise money for  Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City.  Each year it honors a specific Designer who has changed the history of fashion and this year was the Legendary Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons with the theme of Avant Garde.

Here are our faves (and not so faves) of the evening...enjoy the brain break!

(SORRY THE PHOTOS ARE NOT COMING OUT! The resolution isn't even for each of them!)

Since the theme was Avant Garde (see description above) we chose a stringent voting process...and by voting it was Mieke and I sending our favorites back and forth and of course they were exactly the same.   Now there were some stunners...but wearing a gorgeous dress with a gorgeous body and face doesn't mean you will win if you weren't daring and forward thinking.  Sorry Gisele and Candice Swanepoel... Here are our fashion forward favorites-

Zendaya in Dolce Gabanna- YES YES all of it

Lui Wen in Off White- Not sure why we love this so much but the denim ball skirt with the netting on top is gorgeous

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger- For such a beachy type girl this look is beautifully avant garde with out being slutty or silly

Naomi Watts in Stella McCartney- This dress (ugh these blurry pics!) is stunning!  Perfect amount of sexy, forward thinking and fashionable

Cara Delevigne in Chanel- A futuristic show stopper in a suit.  That is not easy to do or pull off

Rihanna in Comme des Garcons- YES!  The end.  For the opposite of this see Katy Perry on how Avant Garde can go wrong

Michelle Monaghan in Paco Rabanne- We gasped when she came out.  This is gorgeous, avant grade and beyond special

Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren Collection- It would be hard for her not to look good but the crispness of the white with the bold red boot and bright pink tulle face netting is stunning

Lily Collins in Giambattista Valli- ALL KINDS OF YES!  Rob and Mariel you win!  Congrats you guys on dressing the best of the night!  This ladies and gentleman is Avant Garde done right!

Laura Osnes in Christian Siriano- Not the most daring of the night but gorgeous, different and lovely all at once

And for the not so great...

NO Katy...NO

OK now the theme was Avant Garde but there is also a way to take it so off it doesn't do the word justice.  There is also a way to ignore it and just wear a Calvin Klein column dress (seriously Gwyneth??)  Here are our not so favorites of the night

Madonna in Moschino- NO. Daring? Yes.  Good? Nope

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein- What?  That cut, those shoes?  You know better madame

Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa- Hmmm for such a funny, cute and sexy woman , this dress is confusing, frilly and not good

Kerry Washington in Michael Kors- She can pull anything off...anything except for this cyber raggedy anne dress.

Diane Krueger in Prada- DIANE!  Where are you?  You are our muse...our fashion crush! This is so bland and safe...next year?

Claire Daines in Monse- NO.  Where is her BF to tell her this?

Who were your faves? Comment below!  We did have a few more but one of our kids just walked into the room and I am going to go cuddle with her so, you know...#momlife  (PS sorry again about the blurry pics!)

Golden Globes Best of the Golden Goddesses

K&J Forever

K&J Forever

It's finally here!  AWARD SEASON!  The only thing that can help us escape from the pending doom of Jan 20th and we couldn't be happier about starting it off with the Golden Globes.  If you are already a reader you know this is when we say our faves and not so much.  It feels weird to do the "not so much" category this year but hey... you gotta have a little Yang with your Yin right?

There were SO many good dresses/suits (woo!) but not that many GREAT ones.  Sure they are all gorgeous women, with bodies of goddesses and skin of angels but that does not automatically mean great style.  So we say cheers to the great ones...the ones that took a chance

  • Blake Lively-  The hardest thing to dress is a body after a baby, let alone 2!  She did it with tremendous style in Atelier Versace
  • Caitriona Balfe- We are not familiar with Caitriona but after tonight we are obsessed with her and love this Delpozo dress
  • Chrissy Teigen- The glowing new mama in Marchesa has us smitten
  • Drew Barrymore- This cutie stuns like a goddess in Monique Lhuillier
  • Emma Stone- WINNER! Breath taking jaw droopingly perfect in Valentino Haute Couture. GO PETRA!  (her stylist)
  • Kathryn Hahn- Love a woman in a tuxedo and she did it perfectly
  • Lily Collins- Like a perfect ballerina in Zuhair Murad Couture
  • Mandy Moore- Love her understated goddessness in Naeem Khan
  • Michelle Williams- Her quirky but beautiful dress by Louis Vuitton goes perfectly with her personality and the night
  • Winona Ryder- WELCOME BACK! We love her and this dark glamorous look by Viktor&Rolf
  • Zoe Saldana- Always perfect and always goes to her own beat this time in Gucci. Another perfect pick by Petra

And yes it's no fun to say this but we can't not!   SJP!  What's going on?  We adore you!  We j'adore your style, willingness to be different but what happened?  And why isn't Sir Gregory Arlt doing your makeup yet???  Love you!

But seriously...the Golden Globes are filled with talented women and men who have worked their entire careers to get into that room.  Who have excelled, gotten a lucky break (after a tremendous amount of work that is) and have not given up their love.  We love to watch life reward people for entertaining, teaching and letting us escape.

The only rule you need for going to a summer festival...Be Yourself!

Besides the super cute pregnant couple in the middle, this is a page from a stylist.  Here are a few of the girls she styled for Coachella.  Yes...these beauties called a stylist to help them get dressed to watch music.  So what are us regular people supposed to do?  Answer...BE YOURSELF

If you follow us on Insta, you probably noticed we were at Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio this weekend.  It was one of the best times we have ever had there and I couldn't figure out why until we got home.   Yes, it was hot and dusty but the amazing music was flowing and the people watching was beyond incredible.

About to see GnR with my love of loves...bandanas ready to go.

About to see GnR with my love of loves...bandanas ready to go.

But, I figured out why after talking to my gorgeous mom friend at preschool drop off on Monday when we began to talk about what to pack for weekend #2 of Coachella (yes it's so popular they needed 2 weekends for it!).  I told her bring what makes you feel good...but there are a few rules that are important to remember when attending a music festival this summer...

  • Bring a bandana to tie around your face or dust mask
  • Take allergy medication for the dust and smoke
  • Wear SPF and a hat and closed toed shoes
  • Drink water
  • Let go and have fun....

And the #1 rule is....BE YOURSELF.

There are people from around the world at these festivals...which is the most incredible thing.  It is a great human experience, but the one thing I noticed while people watching was there are so many people trying really hard to not be themselves.  There is a lot of peacocking at these shows which is really awesome and super fun to look at...and not a bad thing at all! It's all about self expression and having a blast.  The outfits are amazing and the style is incredible but then there are times where you notice that a few of those people seem pretty uncomfortable.  Its weird because there will be a girl who is dressed EXACTLY like another girl 10 feet away from her but for some reason she seems uncomfortable.  And we saw this happen over and over again all weekend.  While most people are actually dressed exactly the same (there is only so much you can wear when watching music for hours a day in the heat and then the chill at night) the ones that stand out are the ones who are most comfortable with themselves.  The confidence cuts through the over styled, over made up and overly naked ones (which I actually love)

FullSizeRender-3.jpg

So instead of packing the cutest hippie maxi dress and gladiators you have that seem perfect for a festival, don't forget it is all dirt or muddy grass...your dress will end up filthy and your toes will look like you took a mud bath... just pack what you will feel best in...the cutest but most comfortable while still feeling like yourself and you can't go wrong.

How cute are they?!?!?!

How cute are they?!?!?!

Even if its a lace tutu and button up top with cowboy boots or a full tiger striped cat suit...as long as its you!

99% of all girls wore this...and we did too!  Yet everyone has there own take on it which is the coolest part to see!

The best and the boring from the Met Gala 2015

Dear Anna, Vouge and whom else it may concern in charge of The Metropolitan Museum of Arts costume gala,

Before we wax poetic about the Yays and Nays of your Annual Met Gala we would just like to say if you are bold enough to put Kim K on the cover as an Icon then be maybe you could be bold enough to implement a dress code?  So, the ball always has a theme and follow it or not we still think your attendees should at least have to "Vogue" it up if you know what we mean... boring mini dresses and wearing Golden Globes-ish gowns to the MetGala is just not appropriate.  In fact it is just as appropriate as wearing a hawaiian shirt and flip flops to a black tie wedding.  They just don't go together.

THIS IS THE VOGUE MET BALL PEOPLE!  IN THE WORDS OF RU PAUL..."YOU BETTER WORK!"

Sincerely,

TWH
