Laser Beam(ing)- The futuristic way to get younger looking skin

You know that girl...the one who seems to defy aging.  The one whose skin gets better over time instead of like the rest of us who can literally watch the crepe settle in like a cat on a freshly made bed.  If you know that girl, chances are she would never tell you the secret to her "glow"  But guess what?  We are SO not that girl.  We are actually so opposite its embarrassing.  We shout out our newest skin finds from the rooftops even to strangers.

A few weeks ago a reader emailed us (yes you can too!) about her skin concerns looking for a certain "fountain of youth" and we decided we should post about our favorite (and tested) way to get that skin that everyone wants.

We have tried it all...peels, retin-a (which is amazing if you are into it), masks, microdermabrasion...you name it.  But the one thing we always come back to are lasers.  There are a ton on the market so we will narrow it down to the ones we have tried and liked.   (PS these are all zero downtime lasers.  We have never tried anything "ablative" which purposely damages your skin and takes a few days to weeks to heal...and give you way better results)

IPL aka Photofacial or Fotofacial.  This is not a "laser", its a light therapy.  Intense (and very warm) light beams from a wand attached to a big old machine hits your skin and almost disintegrates the discoloration from sun damage.   If you (like us) spent too much time in the sun as a kid, this is the one for you!  It wont help with wrinkles and aging skin as much as a real laser therapy can but it will absolutely kick your sun damaged skins butt and make your skin glow.  But beware!  It loves to demolish freckles...all of them...cute and not cute.

Revlite...wooohooo!  The good-  Its so great.  The results are slight but great.  It gives you a baby faced glow, puts your pores in check, and slightly firms your skin.  The bad- You have to get 4-6 treatments for amazing results but if you are ok with that you will thank us.  You have to put numbing cream on your face before a treatment but once you do its not painful.  There is no downtime at all and people will instantly start commenting on your skin.   PS this machine will also demolish bad tattoos...thanks Gail for helping us erase a few "mistakes" we made when we were teens.

Laser Genesis- DO NOT WASTE your hard earned moolah girls.  Maybe its because I didnt need it yet or maybe it just didnt do a thing. But when i turned 24, I tried this and nada.  Poof there went. all my money honey.  And you seem to have to do it more frequently than most other lasers.

The one we are dying to try and have been researching for years.  Thermage.  There are SO many mixed reviews on this one from horrible and scary sagging damaged skin for life (when the laser first came out) to turning back the time 10 years on drooping eyelids, jowls and stretched baby belly skin.   Its quite pricey and for something with such mixed reviews we will just wait a while.

PS.  Before you go get anything done to your face or body you have to do your research.  Then do more of it.  Please go to a very reputable office with real doctors and nurses!  These therapies, if done poorly can severely damage your skin and face for life.

PPS.  Try not to buy a Groupon or other coupon for any of these kind of things unless you absolutely know and trust the company/office/doctor selling them and know they do great work. Most of the time you get what you pay for.

Below are a few of the places we trust, have gone to and can recommend for any of the above.

Not ready for the big "guns"?  These at home lasers have been proven to work over time and are WAY more cost effective.

1. Illuminage-This ergonomically advanced at-home laser device allows for convenient, skin-rejuvenating treatments with a more precise application. Created by celebrity designer, Karim Rashid, it improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a youthful-looking complexion. It delivers pulses of laser light right at the source of wrinkles, triggering the body’s natural response to generate collagen fibers. Safe enough to use at home, yet as effective as professional lasers for the treatment of facial wrinkles, skin is left looking smooth and healthy.
2. Tria Age Defying Laser-The Age-Defying Laser sends targeted beams of light deep within the skin to support natural collagen production the exact same way that the professional treatments do. It treats skin from within: beams of light penetrate the skin to create microscopic zones of cellular disruption. The skin feels warm, but the surface is left undisturbed. It stimulates natural healing: the body's natural healing process springs to action, working to rapidly heal the treated areas by stimulating natural collagen production. It supports new collagen: as new collagen forms, fine lines, wrinkles, and imperfections are naturally sloughed away.

Good luck!  Wear SUNSCREEN!  (trust us)  and a hat...and glasses!  And remember..YOU ARE PERFECT just the way you are...
