Thigh gaps, hip bones, clavicles, six pack abs, skinny waist with a round full butt.... So many must haves to be considered beach body ready.
It is as hard to keep up mentally as it is physically, and honestly it's a little stupid.
Our society has lots and lots of "should be's" for women. In our lifetime alone, when we were young and impressionable we were told we should look like this in a bikini.
Big boobs, Strong long legs, flat tummy.... But a women has some curves. But not too many curves don't get carried away.
Then while we were still growing up... It was like, STOP THE PRESSES!!
Now you have to look like this in a bikini!
No boobs, legs that go on for days and we need to see your chest plate and don't forget that, when you sit down your belly can't roll.
Please don't take this the wrong way, because as most of our readers know Kate Moss is one of our greatest loves. Her body is heavenly and it is truly her body type... Of course we are insane with jealousy, but it's the good kind.
The problem is, as it was when we were in middle school and had these magazine photos pasted all over our walls, not everyone can attain these body types. It's a lot of self induced pressure!
It's was also confusing to have a major shift in societies ideal of beauty at a very impressionable age.
So what happens is you grow up not really thinking that your body is right.
Then you have kids and your own body changes and then you can get to a dangerous place with a very unhealthy body image.
Well, this summer we say FU*K THAT.
We are taking the beach back. We are celebrating every woman who gets out there and lets the sun shine on her body, because you know what? It feels fantastic.
Every time you body shame yourself that energy goes out into the universe. You are beautiful and you are fun and your kids want you out on the beach playing with them. Your kids want you in the pool!
We vow this summer to put a cork in it.
We will try with all our might to not body shame ourselves. We will try to embrace every part of ourselves. We know that all of you know just what we mean and we hope you will join us in this experiment in a collective consciousness of our own worth.
This doesn't mean we are giving up exercise or healthy eating... We do that because we love and respect our bodies. It just means we are going to cut ourselves a little slack. Be nicer to ourselves.
We are great at being supportive of other women, we can see their beauty as plain as day even when they can't... It is time for us... And by "US" we mean you too girls!... It is time for US to love ourselves a little.
Because every time a women like Kate Upton gets called "fat" or "plus size".... An angel's wings shrivel up and fall off!
Because every time a naturally thin girl is told she should eat more, or told she can't understand what it's like to feel insecure about her body... Another angel looses their wings too!
Take back the beach, the pool and the lake this summer. Confidence is beautiful!
