Peel it away

fallchemical-960x750.jpg

Tomorrow I am going to get my first peel and I am so excited! I have dreams of this process working so well that all 40 years of sun damage I had subjected my face too will just peel off. Know while I know this is a fantasy- I do really believe it will improve the fine lines and dark spots that have started to pop up on my face.

I am interested to know, how many of you have had peels done before and what did you think of the outcome? I know ladies who get them done ALL the time and they have such pretty skin!

For any one who doesn't know, we have pulled a little research from the web for you.

What is a chemical peel? (American Society Of Dermatologic Surgery)

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. There are three basic types of chemical peels:

Superficial or lunchtime peel: Alpha-hydroxy acid or another mild acid is used to penetrate only the outer layer of skin to gently exfoliate it. The treatment is used to improve the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands.Medium peel: Glycolic or trichloroacetic acid is applied to penetrate the out and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration. It also can be used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths, i.e. actinic keratosis.Deep peel: Tricholoracetic acid or phenol is applied to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. Patients will see a dramatic improvement in skin appearance. The procedure is used on the face and only can be performed once.

Medium peel: Glycolic or trichloroacetic acid is applied to penetrate the out and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration. It also can be used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths, i.e. actinic keratosis.

Deep peel: Tricholoracetic acid or phenol is applied to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. Patients will see a dramatic improvement in skin appearance. The procedure is used on the face and only can be performed once.

So many different choices, so make sure you are going to a professional who knows exactly what they are doing and what will work best for YOUR skin. You don't want to end up with scaring of discoloration.

Types of Chemical Peels (Dermatology Alliance)

Glycolic Peel

The glycolic peel has the smallest molecular size and penetrates the deepest. It’s great for the exfoliation and rejuvenation of aging skin. Glycolic peels come in different strengths, depending on the results you’re looking for.

Lactic Peel

Derived from milk, the lactic peel is ideal for skin that’s dry or sensitive to active ingredients like retinol. If you’re concerned about having an adverse reaction, the lactic peel is easier on the skin.

Beta Peel

The beta peel is used to treat acne in both younger and older patients. It uses salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin, help with oil control, and target the bacteria that causes acne.

Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize peel includes citric, lactic and salicylic acids, plus a retinol layer, to improve the quality and lighten the pigmentation of your skin. A vitalize peel is superficial with very little peeling, so this is a great place to start for people who have never had a chemical peel.

Pigment Balancing Peel

Using a formulation of acids, the pigment balancing peel is designed to lighten the pigment of the skin. It’s important to have realistic expectations when trying to eliminate brown spots and reduce pigmentation. This process takes time, and you need to use sunscreen for the pigment balancing peel to have the desired effect.

TCA Peel for Actinic Keratosis

TCA is trichloroacetic acid used to provide a medium depth peel to the skin. This treatment can help to remove abnormal skin cells. There are significant cosmetic benefits to this procedure as well.

I will be getting a pretty superficial peel - So I will only have a few days of grossing people out with my peeling face.... Hoping not to look like Samantha in Sex In The City.

samantha-chemical-peel.jpeg

After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen every day. It should say "broad-spectrum" on the label, meaning it protects against the sun's UVA and UVB rays. Also, it should be a physical sunscreen and be above SPF 30. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

I will keep you updated on how it goes and hopefully get rid of some of my sun damage. Remember taking care of your skin preventatively is WAY easier & WAY cheaper then taking care of things retroactively.... So wear a hat and sun screen as much as you can!

Bang Bangs

Screen Shot 2017-11-03 at 5.24.20 AM.png

We are kinda like fashionable hippies.  Comfy in our own skin and style while simultaneously dabbling in what the fashion industry has to offer.  And we noticed the more Trump is president, the more our country shows its ugly dark side, the more we dabble.  It's becoming an "escape" to spruce our wardrobes and selves up (and by "spruce" I mean new vintage shirts).  During this escape into vanity we both seperately cut bangs to change it up a bit for fall.  It's almost like a fresh start.

Cutting bangs doesn't mean one thing anymore...that almost too short straight across cut...every face is different so just do whats good for you!  Here are some of our faves for fall

And nothing is cuter than throwing your hair up in a bun when you have bangs!

LOVE this girl...she was a big inspiration into our bang cutting...well her and Jane Birkin of course

LOVE this girl...she was a big inspiration into our bang cutting...well her and Jane Birkin of course

We are obsessing about these bun adornments for your new improved hair...

So just cut it!  Get a new fall 'do...snip snip away the stress...

As simple as it seems a dash of color in your daily makeup routine can make all the difference in brightening up your day.

We have always loved a good blue eyeliner and we are happy to see it coming back so strongly right now. Years ago Erin swiped a dash of blue across her lids and wrote a whole TWH post about how freeing it was. While some people didn't get it then, it's nice to see everyone embracing it now!

This year for my Birthday I wanted a smokey blue eye to go with my perfect coral colored dress so I went on a blue liner hunt and tried almost everyone in the Sephora.

Today we will run down a few of our favorite blue liners for you from ice blue to the perfect navy, we got you.

The perfect ice blue Stila Stay All Day waterproof liner in periwinkle really does stay all day! If you are able to master the liquid line... Something I am still trying to master, then this is the perfect liner for you.

The smokey navy eye is my favorite right now, and this one is easily mastered because you don't need the precision you need for the liquid cat eye... Just line your eye and start smudging! The best navy I found was Urban Decay's 24/& Glide-On pencil in Sabbath. It goes on super smooth and blends beautifully.

Sunday, Sunday So Good To Me....

For me, Sunday Riley has been a game changer. This summer I discovered her Good Genes lactic acid treatment serum and for me, it was an overnight change in my skin.

I quickly jumped on the bandwagon and of course called Erin immediately to tell her all about it... Of course being the beauty product guru she is, she was well aware of Sunday Riley and told me to try the Luna Oil that she had been using.

In an effort to make my skin a quarter as dewey and lovely as Erin's I ran out to buy it, and again swear I saw an over night change in my skin.

As I investigated more into Sunday Riley products, I have found many people who, like myself, swear they see instant results.. Smother, plumper, more even toned luminous skin within the first week.

But I have found other reviews that feel that these products, particularly the Luna Oil & The Good Genes, are too much for their sensitive skin.

It's a draw, My skin is reacting wonderfully to the pharmaceutical grade lactic acid in the Good Genes & the hydroxypinacolone retinoate in the Luna oil.

Maybe because the sales girl I got the Good Genes from originally warned me to start slowly and build up my use of the product, I never got any irritation or adverse reactions.

Sephora will usually have samples, so be sure to try the products before buying them... They are not cheap, but they cost a whole lot less than laser treatments and in my battle to keep my skin as healthy and fresh as possible, Sunday Riley seems like my best over the counter ally and we are certainly not alone

Remember, you don't have to buy all these products at once, pick and choose what you need now and then work from that starting place.

Good Genes- I plan to use this product for the rest of my days....

Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment is formulated with high potency, purified grade lactic acid that immediately exfoliates dull, pore-clogging dead skin cells, revealing smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin. Fine lines appear visually plumped while the skin looks more radiant. With continued use, the appearance of stubborn hyperpigmentation and the visible signs of aging are reduced for a healthier-looking complexion. Perfect for all skin types and all ages, this treatment is enhanced with licorice for brightening, Good Genes clarifies, smooths, and retexturizes for instant radiance.

Luna Sleeping Oil- I switch off between this and Good Genes every night.

Luna works throughout the night to deliver more visibly youthful, luminous, even-toned skin in the morning. Trans-retinoic acid ester (retinol) complex reduces the appearance of pores and wrinkles, while visibly improving the signs of premature aging, including fine lines, uneven texture, age spots, dryness, and dullness. Balanced with blue tansy and German chamomile essential oils—both rich in soothing, blue azulene—the look of redness and sensitivity are visibly balanced for a calm, even-toned complexion. Luna is clinically proven to improve the appearance of fine lines, radiance, and skin smoothness in as little as four weeks, while advanced retinol ester mixed with potent botanicals makes this product the ultimate transformational, soothing, sleeping night oil.

Next up on my shopping list-

Juno-

A botanically active blend of cold-pressed, powerhouse, superfood seed oils. Essential oil free, for those senstive to the activity of essential oils. Nourishes the skin with critical antioxidants, vitamins, essential amino acids, omegas 3/6/9, UV shields and natural anti-inflammatory agents for a luminous, radiant complexion. Vitamins A and C help brighten skin and increase collagen, while antioxidants protect against free radical damage. Sinks in deeply, leaving skin hydrated, protected and velvety soft for an obsession-worth glow.

C.E.O - Erin's other favorite

C.E.O. C + E Protect and Repair Moisturizer infuses five percent advanced, oxygen-stable tetrahexydecyl ascorbate (THD ascorbate) into the skin—the gold standard form of vitamin C. THD ascorbate is the newer, clinically-proven, oil-soluble derivative of vitamin C, which penetrates better into the skin while being exceptionally stable against oxygenation. With 5 percent THD ascorbate, this moisturizer is powerful at fighting the first visible signs of aging and restoring vital skin radiance, while being uniquely suitable for those with sensitive skin, as THD ascorbate is significantly less irritating than other forms of vitamin C. Once in the skin, it helps boost youthful-looking skin texture and volume, in addition to providing photostable, antioxidant support.
Blended with protective, anti-pollution expopolysaccharides and refining lime pearl extract, this formula visibly repairs the effects of aging, environmental stress, and pollution-induced damage. It is rich yet never greasy, providing hydration and antioxidant protection to the skin for a visibly younger, softer, and healthier-looking complexion.

Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream delivers an intense water drench with two forms of hyaluronic acid and tamarind extract so your skin looks youthfully hydrated and plumped. Papaya enzymes smooth and exfoliate while alpha-arbutin visibly brightens the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Tidal increases hydration by up to 68 percent in as little as 15 minutes for up to 24 hours of continuous moisture.

So that's it we are joining the Sunday Riley Cult, and this isn't a paid advertisement.... We WISH we could be paid in Sunday Riley products!

I got Sunday Riley's Good Genes for my 40th birthday and used it that first night not really believing it would do much since I have tried so many products but I woke up the next day a believer and had to share it with the world! I really hope these products work for you!

What's another word for pirate treasure?

While we struggle to live in peace with our bodies and love them through ALL the changes motherhood brings, we also want to thank our bodies, keeping them as healthy as we can.

We have both been on a fitness kick lately simply because working out makes us feel good! Dedicating an hour to yourself and focusing on your strength is such a gift for a Mama!

This month I have been focusing on the booty, because, wouldn't it feel great to feel great about your butt? OK, at least feel good about it!

And it's not just about looking good, did you know that strengthening your glutes can help with lower back pain, it can help you jump higher and move faster. Your glutes are one of your bodies major muscle groups, so making sure they are strong and healthy will help you move better for years to come.

Believe it or not, your butt is one of the first body parts to show change through consistent, targeted workouts.

Butts come in different shapes, and while we are genetically tied to our shape, we can all target these muscles with specific exercises to lift and firm our behinds whichever shape we naturally are. Every booty is beautiful, there is no one perfect butt.

The best part of getting older is understanding the fact that there are countless types of beautiful there is no one perfect body, every body is beautiful and sexy.

Here we have a few of our favorite booty blasting exercises you can do at home or at the gym!

1. Glute Bridges & Weighted Glute Bridges- 4 sets of 20

Starting Position: Lie on your back on an exercise mat or the floor in a bent-knee position with your feet flat on the floor. Place your feet hip-width apart with the toes facing away from you. Gently contract your abdominal muscles to flatten your low back into the floor. Attempt to maintain this gentle muscle contraction throughout the exercise. - Ace Fit

Upward Phase: Gently exhale. Keep the abdominals engaged and lift your hips up off the floor. Press your heels into the floor for added stability. Avoid pushing your hips too high, which can cause hyperextension (arching) in your low back. Keeping your abdominals strong helps to prevent excessive arching in the low back. - Ace fit

Lowering Phase: Inhale and slowly lower yourself back to your starting position. - Ace fit

Progression: Gradually progress this exercise by starting with both feet together and extending one leg while in the raised position.
Avoid arching your low back as you press your hips upward, which normally occurs if you attempt to push your hips as high as possible. This can be achieved by contracting your abdominal muscles prior to lifting and keeping them engaged throughout the lift. - Ace fit

Once you have mastered this, move on to doing your glue bridges with a weight across your hips or resting on your lap. Make sure your back is not arching and you are keeping your abdominals and thigh musles engaged so you don't hurt yourself!

2. Donkey Kicks & Rainbow Kicks- 4 sets of 20

Donkey kicks are a great way to target your gluten and the backs of your thighs.

  1. Get on all fours on a mat (hands under shoulders, knees under hips).
  2. Keeping right knee bent 90 degrees, flex right foot and lift knee to hip level.
  3. Lower your knee without touching the floor; lift again. Do 20 reps.
  4. Switch legs; repeat.

Rainbow kicks feel so good! We could do these all day! Targets your butt works your butt and legs. Start on hands and knees, with hands under shoulders and knees under hips. Extend right leg out to right side as straight as possible with toe pointed and touching ground (A). In one fluid motion, move right leg in an arc motion, up (B) then over until right leg is diagonally behind left, with right toe on ground (C). Reverse arc motion to start.

3. Clams- 4 sets of 20

Lay on your right side and prop your head up with your hand. Stack your feet on top of each other and bend the knees to 90 degrees. Open your left leg up keeping the knee bent with feet stacked. As you open and close focus on keeping that glute firing. This should be a controlled movement, 3 seconds going up and 3 seconds going down.

To intensify this exercise add a resistance band.

For us, it's all about being strong and healthy, a mama bear has to be prepaid for anything!

Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes & colors!

XOXO- TWH
