A Valentine to us!

If you are a long time Things We Heart reader, you may have noticed that we have been a little distracted lately..... And by distracted we mean busy bees. We never, never, ever want to stop writing here on Things We Heart. Our readers mean the world to us and we are honestly so amazed each time we meet someone who actually reads all of our posts.... Because sometimes it can feel like singing in the shower, or talking to yourself.... A lot of fun, but you don't think anyone is really listening. So honestly, thank you to those of you who click though from Instagram. We love you.

Valentine's Day is always really special for Erin and I, we sort of think of it as T.W.H's birthday because it is always our "year-end" when we sit together and reassess where we are and where we want to move forward. This year we have some pretty exciting things ahead of us.... But before we get to that, let me catch you up on where we have been in case you were wondering.

Besides raising our kids this past year, Erin and I have been really trying to find ourselves, as far as getting "back" to the passionate creativity we used to thrive on.  We couldn't focus on our personal passions too much while we were in the trenches of "The Baby Years" and while those years are THE BEST years, mothers can really loose themselves a little by immersing ourselves so completely in our families. We put everyone else first, as we should... But it is time to come up for air..... And boy are we coming!

Erin started a company called Four + Four Design and has started bringing old homes around Los Angeles back to their rightful glory. So if you are in Los Angeles and in the market for a new home, you would be lucky to find a @fourplusfourdesign home to call your own. One of their projects was on the cover of Sunset this past year.... Soooooooo in my eyes, she's a pretty big deal. Along with that Erin has also been helping her friend's set up their stores, some of the very cutest boutiques in Los Angeles secretly have a little Erin Lokitz mixed in, she is also helping friends and clients decorate and style their homes and meanwhile managing to raise two beautiful, secure, loved, strong and smart little women. Oh and being an animal rights activist and fashion guru on her instagram page @friendsorfaux. Can you tell how much I love her and how proud I am of her? She inspires me every day. If I didn't love her so damn much I would hate her. Did I mention she is gorgeous. UGH.

Meanwhile I have been pretty busy myself. I was lucky enough to collaborate with my insanely talented, creative and beautiful sister Costume Designer Aubrey Binzer on a company called Binzer & Company. We had the privilege of working on a collaboration with Daft Punk for their pop up shop at Maxfields! To add a cherry on top of that dream we got a feature in HYPEBEAST. Make sure you check out my sister's new Television show Heather's on March 7th on the Paramount Network. Aubrey did such an amazing job on the costumes for this show and keep your eyes peeled for some Binzer & Company designs on the Heathers. I have also been lucky enough to have spent a good part of the year on different writing projects... Including a hopeful book deal! Cross your fingers for me. I have also committed almost 12 years to being a Mamma who feels lucky everyday that I get to be here when my kids come home from school, I know it has been a privilege.

This Valentine"s day though, Erin & I are giving each other a gift and this gift may change the face of Things We Heart a little bit, so please be patient with us.

Drum roll.............

We bought a cabin!!!

Yes, somewhere in the beautiful mountains of California near a gorgeous lake is a little cabin, well actually two little cabins connected by a breeze-way. After years of dreaming we finally found the perfect place to start our new venture, Nine Arrows.

We will spend the next few months focusing on the refurbishing and refreshing of these little cabins. So you may notice we are a little M.I.A from posting here. But don't worry we will keep up the @thingsweheart instagram. We are bursting at the seams with ideas and possibilities so please follow along with us at @ninearrowslakehouse as well to see all the fun. Once we get the cabins perfect we will be using them to build a lifetime of memories for our families. We plan on renting Nine Arrows Lake House out via boutique rental sites as well, so we hope you and your families can make memories in our little home as well.

Erin and I think this project is perfect for us because it combines so many of the things we love; design, decor and making people feel welcome. We look forward to sharing not only the adventure of building Nine Arrows with you but the tangible joy of experiencing this dreamy place for yourself.

So happy Valentine's Day Erin, I got you a house.... Oh, you got me one too? Perfect!

A special Valentine's shout out to the men who make our hearts pitter-patter and our dreams come true. We will always be your Snow Bunnies.

She's like a rainbow...

Lately we have become obsessed with colors and chakras and chakra balancing. I know, SUPER new age! The world is crazy right now, we need to find all possible ways to find clam or our heads will most likely explode.

Have you ever tried to meditate? If you have you have probably seen colors dancing before your eyes.... But what do those colors mean? What do they represent? Why are we drawn to certain colors and turned off by others? These are some of the many things we wonder about while trying to fall asleep at night.... Although I am supoussed to be meditating so I CAN sleep at night... See how ironic?

In all honesty I am completely new to this, so you will have to bear with me as I stumble my way through this chakra business. Let's learn together. I have collected this information from the web.

Chakra colors are typically broken down into seven and follow the order of the colors of the rainbow. Let’s look at the chakra colors in order, from red to purple and white, and explore their meanings and attributes.

In order, the colors of the seven primary chakras are:

  1. Red – First chakra
  2. Orange – Second chakra
  3. Yellow – Third chakra
  4. Green – Fourth chakra
  5. Blue (sapphire blue or turquoise) – Fifth chakra
  6. Purple (or deep indigo) – Sixth chakra
  7. White (sometimes purplish white) – Seventh chakra

Each color reflects a type of vibration or frequency radiating through the chakras. This classic color chart is based on yogic traditions, as well as contemporary healing schools of thought. Although the exact color of each energy center may vary, there is a general agreement about a rainbow-colored representation of the chakra system.

Different chakra colors and their meanings

  1. The Root Chakra – The Sanskrit word for this Chakra is Mooladhara Chakra (mool means root). The chakra colors associated with the root chakra is Red. The root chakra defines our relation to Earth. It impacts our vitality, passion and survival instincts. The red chakra colors are also indicative of our need for logic and order, physical strength and sexuality as well as the fight or flight response when faced with danger. The sense of smell in the human body is connected to the Root Chakra. The gland to which the root chakra is attached is the Gonads.
  2. The Sacral Chakra – The Sanskrit word for the sacral chakra is the Swadhisthana chakra. The chakra colors associated with sacral chakra is orange. Swadishthana chakra relates to the water element in the human body. The chakra colors orange impact sexuality, reproductive function, joy, desire and even creativity, compassion for others etc. The sense of Taste is associated with the Sacral Chakra. Glands and organs impacted by this chakra include the lymphatic system, female reproductive organs, large intestine, pelvis, bladder etc.
  3. The Solar plexus Chakra – The Sanskrit word for this chakra is ManiPura Chakra which literally translates to “city of jewels”. Thus the solar plexus chakra is the personal power chakra that is responsible for one’s personal and professional success. The chakra colors yellow of this energy vortex are associated with fire, energy, charge etc. This element of fire, when balanced and harmonious allows one to feel more confident, cheerful and energetic along with a right amount of respect for self and others. Our sense of sight is associated with the solar plexus chakra. The glands or organs associated with Solar plexus chakra are Adrenal glands.
  4. The Heart Chakra – Anahata Chakra or the heart chakra is associated with the chakra colors Green. This chakra influences our relationships and has the Air element. A weak heart chakra is responsible for sabotaging the relationships through distrust, anger and envy etc. Sense of touch is impacted by the heart chakra and the glands connected to it are Thymus and lymph.
  5. The Throat Chakra – The Vishuddhi chakra refers to our true voice. As the name suggests, the Throat chakra with its chakra colors Blue is associated with the ability to communicate, listen etc. The glands to which the Throat chakra is attached are the esophagus, ears, throat, thyroid, jaws, teeth and neck vertebrae. The ethereal element of the Throat Chakra, when balanced, allows an individual to have pleasant voice, artistic abilities, expressive ways and also ability to be in a higher place spiritually. The individuals with balanced throat chakra are able to meditate well and use their energy efficiently and artistically.
  6. The Brow/Third Eye Chakra – The Ajna Chakra literally translates to “centre of knowing or monitoring”. This chakra is associated with chakra colors Indigo and is connected to the Pineal or pituitary gland. Those with a well balanced brow chakra can have telepathic abilities, charismatic personality and they often do not have any fear of death. The element of electricity or telepathy along with the chakra colors of Indigo are associated with our sense of Thought.
  7. The Crown Chakra – This chakra is known as Sahasrara chakra in Sanskrit and is associated with the chakra colors of violet or purple. The crown chakra is associated with the pituitary gland, nervous system, and the brain and head region with its element of light. In its balanced state, this chakra can render individuals the ability to perform miracles, transcend the laws of nature, and have a heightened awareness of death and immortality.

What will you do with this information? Not sure what we will do with it ourselves, but like I said before, our country's political climate is so intense right now, for the sensitive souls among us, it can be too much. Sometimes we have to close our eyes and try and get back to a calm inner place. If meditation isn't for you, try going for a run or taking a nap- The need to break away from our screens is really strong for us right now.

Unplug for a while and get back to yourself.

Squeezing out the last drop.....

Halloween is definitely one of our very top holidays. We love getting dressed up, we love being slightly scared in the exciting way, we love candy, we love moonlight, we love pumpkins.... I mean- It's like a holiday that was made just for us!

Although this year it feels like it's already been Halloween for a week. We can't help but feel a tad over it! I know, that is awful to say. We hope today is as fun for you as the last 4 days of Halloween have been.  As mush as we love Halloween, couldn't we confine it to one weekend? We wouldn't feel so tired and cranky about it.

To bring back the fun and enjoyment of the holiday and to get you (and ourselves) super excited for tonight... We bring you.... Some of our favorite costumes EVER!!! This is a random selection we found on the internet- Just to make you smile. If these photos are you, claim them!

I think we post this guy every year... Because whats better then a little one dressed like our dream man? Just too cute....

Genius Lloyd Dobler

Double points for creativity! How do people build these arms? Love this costume- Love this movie.

Seeing Double

Seeing Double

When you randomly look exactly like a movie star you absolutely need to use that to your advantage.... Therefor no one could do a better American Psycho costume better than this guy and he should just stick to this costume every year.

I can't

I can't

This guy took a passing resemblance and one up'ed it... Not just Che Guevara but the iconic Che Guevara t-shirt! Super out of the box creative!

Speaking of boxes.... We have to hand it to G.P seen here dressed as her own severed head sent to Brad Pitt in SEVEN.... It's just too good.

I know... But I't really good.

I know... But I't really good.

Kim & Kourtney K came through with M.J and Madonna and they pretty much killed it... As they should with the amount of money they spent on their glam squads for this one! We have to hand it to them!

Bruce Willis probably had a much smaller glam squad, and still made us laugh with his friend as the spooky ass twins from The Shining!

Pull yourselves together, get back in the spirit and take your kids trick or treating! Remember, this really is the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Fun (AND EASY) Halloween snacks ....

Screen Shot 2017-10-26 at 6.04.24 AM.png

We are ALL about holidays.  We love everything about them...the decor, the excitement, anticipation, how our kids look so forward to them and of course the food!   Now as much as we LOVE holidays we are also not as "Pinterest Mom" as we wish we were.  We are not about to spend hours in the kitchen making Instagram worthy snacks, DIY decor etc...but what we are are great moms who want to celebrate but also have other sh*t to do!

Here are funny Halloween treats we can all make at home with out getting a nervous "am I not good enough" twitch in our eye.

Black pasta with fondant or gummy worms?!  Done!  We found black spaghetti at Trader Joes and will grab Surf and Sweets (vegan- no horse parts!) gummies from Amazon or Whole Foods and Voila!

YES!  It doesn't get easier or more gross!  Veggie Dogs, buns and katsup...done and done

Screen Shot 2017-10-26 at 5.46.02 AM.png

LOVE these spider ice cubes from Pink Peppermint Design.  Even as someone with Arachniphobia we can't help but want to make these.

Screen Shot 2017-10-26 at 5.47.10 AM.png

And one for them and US!  This might be the winner of the day.  Black lemonade from Instructables.  A bit of activated charcoal...we always have this around...and lemonade...creepy!  We would add vodka for us :)

I mean we would LOVE to be as cute as this mama but for now we will just admire this cuteness from a far

Seriously we have no excuse why we can't make these!

Hope you have as much fun as they do...half of our fun is the look on their faces!

Another kind of self care...

All we want to do right now...

All we want to do right now...

It seems like lately all we want to do is eat, nest, and snuggle with our families (and no we aren't pregnant).  It has been constant stream of heightened stress since Jan 20.  And with the Vegas mass shootings, Trump being Trump, the hurricanes, paired with everyday life we just want to curl up,  show our children the beauty of life and eat a ton of fried food and chocolate.  So far we have been doing great at most of those.

Screen Shot 2017-10-05 at 8.33.54 PM.png

Now when it comes to chocolate we are professionals.  We can tell you the best one for your needs whether it be baking, eating or giving as gifts.  Our pantries usually have at least 3 kinds of eating chocolate at the ready and now a days it is about 5.   If we could have any chocolate (non dairy of course) it would be these three lovelies.

Compartes Sea Salt Dark Chocolate -  As sinfully sexy as it looks.  This is chocolate at its finest
  • Mast Brothers Almond Butter Dark Chocolate Bar-  Seriously eat this as much as possible.  The price tag isn't so fun but we can't help it when we walk into Broome Street General and see these gorgeously wrapped, hand crafted lovelies we can't help it!
  • Justin's Dark Chocolate PB Cups-  WINNER!  These are hands down our favorite things to cuddle up with (next to wine and of course our babies)-  WINNER!  These are hands down our favorite things to cuddle up with (next to wine and of course our babies)

Now the best thing to do with piles of chocolate on a stressful day is just snuggle.  No nap needed.  Just curl up with the coziest blanket, your family (furry ones included), a great TV show and chocolate and watch your stress levels dip.  Are the dishes really that important? If you need any help getting in the mood just take a gander at that snuggly dreamy blanket Jen Atkin (the sweetest hair stylist in the land) has in her equally dreamy living room.

All Modern

All Modern

We may not be able to have her delicious blanket  (her mom makes them and sells them here!) but we found 3 that are just as pretty and snuggly.

  • Restoration Hardware Faux Fur- We love our faux fur blankets from RH!  We can always count on my Nana to get us one...the girls LOVE it
  • Anthropologie Pink Faux Fur-  This dreamy, big and snuggly pale pink yumminess has been in our carts for a while and maybe it is time for us to gift ourselves with one.  You know...for the stress and all
  • PB Faux Shearling-  Yes please!  As a blanket, a cuddle wrap, a pet blanket what ever...we need this

How ever you choose to self love and take a moment to just "be" do it with love in your heart and peace in your brain.  We could all use it these days...

Tiny Armor...tiny tattoos

Tattoos have been a part of human lives/bodies for centuries.  They are marks of honor, sadness, memories, heart aches and breaks, past love, challenges overcome or just because they are pretty or funny.  But what ever the reason tattoos are so alluring we can't get enough of them.  Although we may have made a mistake or 2 in the past with too big or "I am gonna love this forever" tattoos, we still love them and want a million more.  But alas we hold back knowing they are permanent and if not permanent, they are insanely painful to remove and don't always look right once they are gone.

One of my favorite friends to run into, Toby Morse, who is not one to love the delicate tattoos :)

One of my favorite friends to run into, Toby Morse, who is not one to love the delicate tattoos :)

This weekend we decided to the amazing Long Beach boutique, Prism, where they had a vintage clothes pop up and rad tattoo artist named "Hopper" doing dainty, single needle tattoos.  So of course I used any excuse I could to see Mieke and "forced" her to go with me.  How could she resist...shopping and a tattoo date?!?    We both ended up wanting the same one.  A tiny, delicate arrow that meant a lot to us both.  - Arrow- One meaning is "protection from harm" which goes along perfectly with the reason it meant so much to us which was "when something pulls you backwards, shoot forward into the light".  I then read (after we got them) that if two people get arrows together, "their friendship will last a lifetime"  Que the tears

Here are a few tiny tattoos we love by artists we can not get enough of...

Most of the artists whose work is above have a 6 month wait list!  But its so worth it for a good artist, safe and clean place and it gives you ample time to think about it!

  • Dr Woo's work is so detailed so intricate.  Now we would never go to someone simply because they have tattooed celebs but he is so good.
  • Daniel Winter Stone is beyond.  He is based in LA and I actually stalked a lady just to ask her who did her tiny delicate yet perfect stars on her hand.
  • Sol Tattoo is an artist from South Korea that loves to do tiny perfect cat tattoos in the most gorgeous colors
  • The artists at Bang Bang NYC will blow your mind!

(There are thousands of artists that do insane work...these are a few of our favorites that we drool over daily on Instagram)

What ever you get, just make sure you really want it and the person/shop doing it is licensed, clean, safe and experienced....

What would you get?  Comment below or on Insta!

A few things to warm your soul & light your fire

We have been feeling at a loss for things to write about here, the world is is such a heartbreaking state of affairs.... Shopping, makeup and other bits of life, beautiful, but trivial thoughts are evading us. We want so much to fix everything and everyone that is broken. A feat that today seems impossible. Yet, here we stand despite it all.

So what?!?, We ask our selves can we bring to you that actually sets your souls of fire?

We have found the poems of Rupi Kaur so beautiful, moving and inspiring that we had to share them with you.

This young Canadian woman touches us so deeply with her words.... We hope they bring you some warmth. We hope her words light you up the way they do for us, to make you feel powerful and less alone.

A Few Things- Book Worm Edition

Books! Those glorious little vessels of escape and magic.... For as long as I can remember I've been reading a book, jumping from one to the next in a continuous stream of stories.

I'm not a selective reader, I will read pretty much anything you set in front of me.... That doesn't mean I like them all, it just means I am willing to give them all a chance. I think I have only quit reading about 3 books total in my life.... Where I decided, I can't do this anymore, I am wasting valuable reading time on a book I am not even slightly attached to.

That being said, there a number of books in the endless stream that stand-out and always float back into my mind. Here are a few books that I read this summer that I would love to pass on to you.

1. The Sinner by Petra Hammesfahr

Alright, yes, I did start reading this because the new Jessica Beil limited series on USA looked super interesting to me. I wanted to see what it was all about and I am SO glad I did! This book grabs you right from the start with its dark mysteries. A young mother with a buried, painful past snaps one day and the story unravels from there with flashbacks and twists. I'm currently getting hardly any sleep at night because I can't put it down. Please read this book if you love a good mystery- it's not a who-done it but more of a "Why did she do it?". I have to finish it before the series premieres this week, if only so I can sit next to my husband watching it with the smug knowledge that I know the secrets of the show, but I'll never tell... It's sort of my thing. Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, The Handmaids Tale, Gone Girl....

2. Salvage The Bones - Jesmyn Ward

I'm quite a few years late to the party on this one, and on National Book Award winning author Jesmyn Ward but I can't tell you how amazed I am by her. Raw talent, seamless storytelling and the ability to transport you directly into her setting. This story starts a few days before Hurricane Katrina strikes and focuses on one young girl Esch and her family as they spend their last days before the flood unknowing what disaster and heartache lay before them. This book transported me into a world I have never experienced but was written in a way that made me feel deeply connected to all the characters.

3. My (Not So) Perfect Life- Sophie Kinsella

When things in my own life are heavy I have to read light, fluffy fun books to take me out of my own head and Sophie Kinsella is one of my very favorite authors for this. Smart, witty and relatable- I love a Sophie Kinsella heroine! While I am honestly not a huge fan of the Shopaholic series... Sorry! I do love all of her other books and her latest is no exception. When Katie is fired from her fancy London job in advertising she doesn't know how to tell her family, so she pretends it never happened. Continuing to curate a perfect city life on her Instagram account, no one would be the wiser. Of course in true Kinsella fashion, there are bound to be some laugh-out-loud bumps in the road to Katie's happy ending. A great light and fun beach read.

Slow it down and read a book!

Take Us To The Tropics. The tropical trend we are ALL about!

Give us some water, sand and a towel and we are ready to go!  We LOVE anything beach related and this new Tropical trend is something we can get strongly behind.   Just peek into our closets and you are bound to find a vintage Hawaiian print romper,  an ex-boyfriend from high school's Hawaiian shirt and just about anything that reminds us of of a warm tropical place.

So imagine our sheer excitement when we were searching for a vintage Hawaiian dress a few months ago and in our search hundreds of tropical items started popping up and kept popping up on our go to sites!   Maybe it was born again from the Rattan Furniture trend of the last few years, or just a normal cycle in fashion that came from the 50's then the 80's and again now, but what ever the reason is, we are in HEAVEN!

Ruffle Shorts/Kimono // Hawaiian Shirt/Surf Shorts //  Vintage Ruffle Dress // Strapless bodysuit/swimsuit //  Low Cut one piece //  Wrap Dress // Vintage mandarin dress //  High waist skirt

Wanna take the tropics home with you?!  Yeah us too!  Here are our favorite home goods to get you into a Kokomo state of mind!

What's your favorite tropical thing??

Dark Days Ahead....

Planning today's post, we were going to write about our favorite lipgloss, but we can not shake the deep sadness, disappointment, and darkness we have felt since our country's President stood in the Rose Garden and announced America's withdrawal from the Paris Accord yesterday.

Having trouble sorting out what all this means? You are not alone, these days it seems hard to catch our breath everything is moving so fast. We felt nothing was more important to us than sharing this information. We wanted to give you a condensed cliff notes version of what went down and why it is so important and devastating for our planet.

Wikipedia says-

"The Paris Agreement (FrenchAccord de Paris) is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance starting in the year 2020. The language of the agreement was negotiated by representatives of 195 countries at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC in Paris and adopted by consensus on 12 December 2015. As of June 2017, 195 UNFCCC members have signed the agreement, 148 of which have ratified it."

Basically, the Paris Accord is an agreement that came through the UN that was worked on and developed by 195 countries. A promise to each other and the earth to try our best as a united group of nations to protect our one and only planet. This was signed on Earth Day 2016 by 195 world leaders including then President Barack Obama

"(a) Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change;

(b) Increasing the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience and low greenhouse gas emissions development, in a manner that does not threaten food production;

(c) Making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development."

To be simple as possible. Each country gets to choose its own contribution to this global effort. As part of this agreement, we would be encouraged to strive to lower America's carbon footprint. We would be encouraged to invest in renewable energy companies and have strict regulations on off-gassing and industrial waste. Actions like these would not be forced but encouraged for the betterment of our planet as a whole. Each country would report on it's progress every two years in a special report.

"In the Paris Agreement, each country determines its own contribution it should make in order to mitigate global warming. There is no mechanism to force a country to set a specific target by a specific date."

"The contributions that each individual country should make in order to achieve the worldwide goal are determined by all countries individually and called "nationally determined contributions" (NDCs). Article 3 requires them to be "ambitious", "represent a progression over time" and set "with the view to achieving the purpose of this Agreement". The contributions should be reported every five years and are to be registered by the UNFCCC Secretariat. Each further ambition should be more ambitious than the previous one, known as the principle of 'progression'."

"The specific climate goals are thus politically encouraged, rather than legally bound. Only the processes governing the reporting and review of these goals are mandated under international law. This structure is especially notable for the United States—because there are no legal mitigation or finance targets, the agreement is considered an "executive agreement rather than a treaty". Because the UNFCCC treaty of 1992 received the consent of the Senate, this new agreement does not require further legislation from Congress for it to take effect."

I'm sure you are following along you are thinking pretty much what we were thinking... This is amazing! Everyone working together in a constructive and diplomatic way to fight the inevitable damage our planet has suffered and continues to suffer at the hands of uninformed masses of humans. Look, it's understandable... For hundreds of years, we didn't realize the damage we were doing to our planet. The long lasting repercussions of our drilling, burning, wasting, gassing, and chemical spreading. As humans, the effects of the coal, textile, auto and animal agriculture and many more industries were causing our planet to slowly die. Our defense then was we didn't know.

We know now. We know and it's terrifying. How can we turn a blind eye to this? Especially when the rest of the modern, intelligent and civilized world is offering us all a way to try and repair it... Or at the very least slow down the Earth's demise.

Sounds perfect right? If not perfect then at least it sounds like something... Like we are doing something to save the Earth....

Well, welcome to the Trump Administration. Where nothing makes sense and everything makes you want to scream.

In a quote from his announcement on America withdrawing from the agreement, Trump said

"At what point does America get demeaned? At what point do they start laughing at us as a country?" Trump inquired during an afternoon event held in a sun-drenched Rose Garden.

"We want fair treatment," Trump said. "We don't want other countries and other leaders to laugh at us anymore."

Sir, the other countries and their leaders are laughing. They are laughing at you for your narrow-minded, bull-headed and dangerous actions.

America now stands with only two other countries as the nations that are not part of the Paris Accord. Syria & Nicaragua.

Both Syria & Nicaragua produce only a small fraction on the greenhouse gasses America produces. Here is a little more information on why Nicaragua and Syria are not part of the deal...

Unlike our president who, despite endless scientific evidence still believes that Global Warming is some sort of hoax or fabricated story, Nicaragua denied the Paris Accord because they didn't think it went far enough to help reverse climate change.

As for Syria, well since they are an international pariah and have been devastated and torn by the genocide of their leader Assad. Members of Assad's government have sanctions that ban them from international travel... Oh except to countries like Iran and Russia.   Speaking of Russia, that brings us back to Trump.

In an effort to "Stand by his base" Trump decided to abandon the wishes of millions of American's. While claiming to stand by the people that voted for him, Trump continues to do no such thing.

Trump voters, your health care costs will sky-rocket if you're lucky enough to be able to get it. Your rights will be stripped away one by one. Sure maybe you can keep your guns and that seems to be the only constitutional right you are concerned about.

Trump will continue to put you down into coal mines- an important job, but one that is detrimental to your personal health as well as the health of our planet instead of training you for jobs in the renewable energy job sector.

He will tell you he's making America Great again while he and his family manufacture their goods in China and make billions of dollars using his dirty name to sell crappy promises all around the world.

He will tell you "I'm going to build that Dakota Access Pipeline and I'm going to use American Steel", and then he will buy the steel from Russia.

He will tell you he's out of the Paris Accord to benefit you, his loyal base when really he is out to benefit his friends in big business. Because it would cost them too much to lower their carbon emissions and he wants to let them save a buck by dropping their chemical waste in the streams and waterways near your homes, near where your children play.

Don't fool yourselves, Donald Trump doesn't care about anyone r anything that doesn't benefit him.  Maybe you helped him win the election, but he can't relate to you and your struggles.

Then when we all get sick because our planet is polluted and wasted away, they will turn you away from hospitals because you probably have a pre-existing condition.

Stepping away from the Paris Accord isn't a shrewd businessman, he's a greedy small minded opportunist.

Shooting ourselves in the foot, taking us from a leading nation in the world, arguably THE leading nation in the world and setting us back into the dark ages. Not only will out earth suffer, our economy will suffer because we will not be investing our efforts into the energy sources of the future. Creating millions of jobs and becoming leaders in the field.

No, we are going to stay here and give that up, thanks anyway.

Trust us, Donald. The world is laughing, and they are laughing at you but as Americans and Earthlings, we are crying in shame.

In the words of our former President,

"The nations that remain in the Paris Agreement will be the nations that reap the benefits in jobs and industries created.  I believe the United States of America should be at the front of the pack.  But even in the absence of American leadership; even as this Administration joins a small handful of nations that reject the future; I’m confident that our states, cities, and businesses will step up and do even more to lead the way, and help protect for future generations the one planet we’ve got."

We need to take the future into our own hands and pray that the Trump administration doesn't do any permanent damage that can't be reversed when he is gone. We will fight for the impeachment of this dishonest man.

Keep up the resistance!

You would be hard pressed to find anything more beautiful than the stary, sparkly galaxy.

I recently went on a field trip with my 5th-grade son to an areospace museum and we watched a film about the milky way and the creation of our solar system. The part that caught my attention was one fact... Each and every single one of us contains a minuscule amount of stardust in the makeup of our bodies. How fantastic is that? I always knew we were all stars.

This month we are feeling pretty inspired by everything celestial and so we rounded up a few of the things we are loving right now. From the tips of our fingers down to our toes we are feeling this cosmic look.

Olive & June

Olive & June

When you get it right a cosmic mani can look amazingly cool. We love Olive & June for the way they can keep even the most over the top nail art concept classy.

We may or may not have become so obsessed with this slip dress that we can't stop visiting it on our favorite new direct to consumer brands site. Réalisation Par nailed everything good about our teenage astrology books and named a dress after it.

Hello gorgeous! It took us drooling over this celestial skirt for us to realize we were on to a theme this summer. We love the color and the ease of this skirt from Lovers + Friends. Mix it with your favorite white T and you are ready to go.

Have you ever fallen in love with someone over Instagram? We do it all the time and we fell hard for @anotherseattleartist Katie Marks is a ceramic artist who makes the most adorable cups, bowls, and pipes we have ever seen. Each piece is truly a work of art. Which is probably why they sell out so fast we haven't been quick enough to nail a piece down yet. Her galaxy glaze is perfect for us. Do yourself a favor and check her out.

Let's pretend money is no object... Because sometimes that's a fun game to play.... These sweet little stary night ring by Andrea Fohrman would be on our fingers faster then you could say Twinkle, Twinkle.

Of course you can't forget the number one way to celebrate the stars... take a few nights off and go sit out under them. We aren't much for pitching our own tents, so here is a list of a few beautiful glamping spots. Where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the stars and then snuggle up in a spider free bed.

We are all made of stars.

Mix your metals

The age old "rules" of fashion are not for us or our generation as a whole. One would be hard pressed to find someone these days who won't wear white after Labor Day... But what about the more subtle rules, like don't wear navy & black together or don't mix your metals... Silver jewelry goes only with silver jewelry and gold with gold.

These rules are somewhat ingrained into our collective psyche and you may not even realize you're following them unless you stop and think about it. If you stick to the "No mixing your metals" rule, just think of all that jewlery sitting lonley at home when it could be out having fun!

Erin Wasson Wasson Fine

Time to break the rules. Throw on all your chains at once, put your beautiful silver pendant on a gold chain. Mix it up.

Roseark- James Banks Designs - P.S. My birthday is next month

Roseark- James Banks Designs- P.S. My birthday is next month

The same goes for your bracelets, your rings & your pretty little ears.

If mixing metals in the jewelry world is old news to you and you're already a mixing pro, then why not branch out into your home's interior?

The idea that we could mix metals in our decor was eye opening to us and so much fun!

I mixed metals for example when I got the bathroom sconces I was dreaming of without having to change all my sink hardware, at first I was nervous and thought it wouldn't work, but I think it totally did.

What's good for the bathroom is good for the kitchen, and these pretty spaces proves that mixing metals can be modern and sleek.

Break rules, have fun & mix it up.

What We WANT Now....

Veruca Salt

Veruca Salt

Do you ever get that feeling... You know, the one feeling you're ashamed to admit actually takes up residence in your brain.... The Veruca Salt feeling? Yep, it's when you want something and you want it bad!

Well, right now we have our eye on a few things we want pretty stinking badly but they are all playing hard to get.

Here is a short list of "A Few Things" we are lusting after this month.

1. Vintage Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace:

Been dreaming of these too long to have not made it happen for ourselves yet. We have almost bit the bullet a couple times and chickened out each time. Here is the thing, these necklaces, the real ones are expensive, they are all unique and a reproduction just won't cut it.... So when you find the right one, invest! Still scouring flea markets to find the one that is meant for us. We will know it when we see it.

2. The Perfect Facial Oil-

It may seem counter-intuitive to put oil on your face when your whole life you were taught you don't want an oily face.... But facial oil has changed our lives. It is the perfect dewy moisturizer for our skin, which can tend to get dry living in California and forgetting to drink enough water in our busy days. Here is an article about how good oils are for your skin. We are constantly on the hunt for the PERFECT oil....

A. French Girl Organics- I haven't tried this one but it is next on my list and I am really excited about it.

B. NUDE- This has been my favorite facial oil so far. It is moisturizing but light enough that it doesn't make you look greasy... Just dewy. I also love that NUDE is vegan and all natural.

C. RODIN- I have this one right now and I will honestly say, it is not my favorite. Which extra sucks because it is the most expensive. The smell isn't my favorite and it's slightly heavy... I have to be careful not to use too much or I look pretty greasy all day. But it gets great reviews so it may just not be the perfect match for my skin.

3. The Perfect Pair Of Jeans:

While some may say the perfect pair of jeans is a myth, we still are on the hunt. We dream about them enough to know they must be out there. The hard part is knowing which pair will be perfect for you. So similar to the saying about having to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your price, you have to try a lot of denim before you find your "Perfect Pair".

1. One Teaspoon Denim: These jeans always, ALWAYS look so great on Erin... She has that cool ballerina/tomboy thing going on. I have tried and I never feel like they look quite as effortless on me, but I am going to keep trying.  This pair of "Van Saints" in black are on the way to my house right now!

2. Jane Birkin in her perfect jeans... If you happen to look at 500 pictures of Jane Birkin a week... Like we do... You will see she is always in these cool patchwork jeans.

3. Mother Denim: This company pretty much consistently thrills me. I love the way their jeans fit me and I love the styles and washes that they come up with each season... If I counted my jeans, more of them would be Mother then any other brand. These cropped flares are pretty much my dream jeans from my teenage years. A little hippie and still a great hug on your booty. Thank you, Mother, for the "Weekender" us short girls need a little flare love too!

Go ahead and be a bad egg!

Kayla we miss you....

Have you ever had a really good thing going? Like, let's pretend that you are in a relationship and yeah, maybe it's a lot of hard work but the payoff is great? Then all of a sudden you get a little lazy and you stop working as hard and you just let a few days go by without seeing each other and before you know it, it's been months... Or even years!

That is pretty much what happened with us and the BBG... If you are not familiar with the BBG it's the Bikini Body Guide invented by the beautiful and super hardworking Kayla Itsines. Once we were in a committed relationship with the BBG and then we left it for running errands, doing laundry and drinking rose and pretty much just being busy Mamas! Now we are looking back and realizing we let a good thing go!

But we are going to try and get back together with our old love... The Bikini Body Guide.

I mean.....

I mean.....

This 24 week workout program that you do on your own is no easy walk in the park... It's freaking hard and if you do it right and you do it consistently your body will transform right before your eyes.

Beautiful, hard work taken from @kaylaitsines

Beautiful, hard work taken from @kaylaitsines

This isn't an overnight magic trick.... This program is HARD and it requires commitment. But we did it and it worked, never before or after have we been so strong & fit.

So why did we stop? UGHHHHH kicking ourselves, but sometimes life gets in the way.

So instead of beating ourselves up, we are going to try our best to recommit to the BBG.

Because we just want to be our strongest and best versions of ourselves.

Thinner & Thinner

There is always a thing or two that women don't really like to talk about, call it superstitious but they give us the heebie-jeebies... Like if we talk about them, suddenly they are going to be real. ... One of these things is hair loss.

As women get older hormones cause them to start thinning in the one place we don't want to be thinner, our hairlines!

But did you know that age & hormones aren't the only contributors? Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can also cause premature hair loss, wearing your hair up in tight top knots and ponytails every day is a HUGE, HUGE contributor & anything that puts your body into shock and stress is a major reason for young healthy women to start losing hair.

So if shock and stress can contribute to hair loss in women and the election was on November 9th, then by our reasoning by March half of the women in America will have thinning hair.

Lately, we have been more vocal about this problem and as usual, once you open up about what you are going through, you realize you are not alone! So for any of the ladies out there reading this, please know, we've got you!

We are not alone, these pictures of beautiful celebrities who always look great show you that if a ponytail is pulling your hair too tight, too often then hair loss at the temples is happening to everyone. Thanks to the ponytail, messy bun and topknot trends of our generation, most women are having the issue of what is called Traction Alopecia

So what can we do about it?

As always our first step is education and research, here is what we found.

"It's estimated that hair loss affects 1 in 5 women. The most common types of hair loss are telogen effluvium and alopecia areata. Although it's more common than alopecia areata, telogen effluvium is less severe. This occurs when the hair follicles stop growing and lie dormant and fall out within two to three months. Being that telogen effluvium is oftentimes caused by stress, trauma or medications, hair growth is typically restored within 6 to 9 months. On the flip side, alopecia areata occurs when white blood cells attack hair follicles, causing the hair to thin and fall out, usually in patches. This type of hair loss may require treatment as hair may not grow back on its own.

Your hair says a lot about your overall health. When the body goes into crisis mode, hair growth is stunted to redirect energy to other cells throughout the body. So hair loss is oftentimes the first sign of trouble. While age is definitely a factor of hair loss, other factors, such as hormonal imbalance, emotional stress, medications and hair care products can also lead to thinning of the hair and even male pattern baldness. The best way to get to the root of the problem is to determine the underlying cause."

1. Get checked out by your doctor... Rule out hormone imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and complications with your medications. (Ask your doctor to do a full thyroid panel & check your iron levels) Once you know if your overall health is a contributor you can move on to other questions.

2. Have you had anything traumatic or shocking happen to you in the last 3-9 months? If you have, your hair loss could be attributed to that. "When the body is in shock it upsets the circulatory system and the essential nutrients that the skin and hair need can be compromised. Hair loss due to physical trauma is not normally permanent and once the body recovers the hair will start to grow back. It can take time, hair can still be lost up to 3 months after the accident. During this time taking care of the hair is important."

3. Are you wearing your hair up every day? Are you a ponytail queen? Do people not recognize you when you wear your hair down? If you are one of these ladies, you know it.  When you wear your hair up in a style that pulls it up to the top of your head with the elastic placed above your ears, you are putting stress on your hair ALL DAY LONG!!!! "A ponytail that pulls all the hair into a tail centered at the crown area ends up resting with the majority of the weight of the hair being placed on the leading edge of the hairline. The tighter the hair is pulled into the ponytail (and more specifically, the tighter the hair is HELD) the more tension is placed on the forward edge of the hairline."

1. If your condition is medical then your doctor should help you be able to help you figure a way to balance your hormones or nutrients and that should help your hair get back into the regular growth cycle, this shouldn't be a permanent problem.

But you can also do these things to help speed up the process:

(This also stands for the hairloss due to stress & shock)

Take a hair vitamin, I have one that I swear helped me grow out my pixie haircut and made my hair thicker and stronger. Although my partner Erin will kill me for putting it up on TWH because she hates the packaging & the name... I am putting my word on it that this vitamin, Hairfinity works, packaging be damned!

TWH also suggests you give your scalp some extra loving.... The skin needs to be taken care of to encourage the hair follicles to be stimulated. We found this video from Annie Jaffreythat gives you the lowdown on a perfect scalp massage.

Ok ponytail Mamas, Now we need to talk to you. TAKE YOUR PONYTAIL OUT!!!

We aren't trying to make you feel bad because we are in the same boat... So are millions of women. Ballerina's, gymnasts, cheerleaders, swimmers, horseback riders anyone who grew up wearing their hair up in a ponytail or bun most of the time has a long history of thinning at their temples.

Unfortunately, if this is something you have dealt with over time the hair follicles are probably damaged beyond repair with everyday home remedies. "Traction alopecia causes scarring of the hair follicle. Hair that is lost from permanently scarred follicles will not regrow."

So here are some of your choices.

1. Cortizone shots - "It can also stimulate hair to grow again in those areas after about four weeks. The injections are repeated every few weeks. Alopecia may return when the injectionsare stopped. Side effects of corticosteroid injections include pain at the injection site and thinning of your skin (atrophy)."

This is a common first step from a lot of Dermatologists but reading on-line, it seems results are mixed. Some are helped by it, some see no results and some even say it seems to have accelerated their hair loss!

2. Hair transplant- This is only for people suffering from serious extreme Traction Alopecia. If you are considering this treatment make sure you find a reputable doctor and make sure you have seen his work not just in pictures but in real life. Professional doctors are used to these requests and will usually be able to arrange for you to meet a previous patient.

For this Ballerina Diva Hollands , a transplant was the best option.

For this Ballerina Diva Hollands, a transplant was the best option.

A new treatment is also on the horizon.

 – PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy –

PRP starts by drawing blood from the patient. The blood then goes into a machine that separates out the platelets filled with growth factors.

Those growth factor-filled platelets are then injected into the scalp to stimulate new-hair growth, decrease hair loss and make the hair grow thicker.

Producing platelet rich plasma is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

You can get PRP done at a California location called Facile

The number one takeaway we got after all of our research is you can't wear your hair in a high & tight pony all the time. Try styling your hair down or if your need to put it up opt for a low bun or pony at the nape of your neck. If you have to put your hair up to the top of your head, don't wear it like that all day long. Your hair shouldn't hurt when you take it out of a ponytail and if it does your hair was under to much pressure and you may have damaged the front follicles, so massage it till the hair feels normal again.

Most of all remember you are not alone, we are in this together and more women are dealing with this than you would ever guess.

A Few Things...Boutique Party Stores

Seriously!??!  Oh Happy Day kills it!

Seriously!??!  Oh Happy Day kills it!

If you know us then you know we LOVE a good party and even more than that we LOVE to throw a good party.  For years we have hosted dinners, amazing kids parties, random shindigs and even New Years hangover brunches because anything can be used as an excuse to decorate and have people over.

We have buckets in the basements/garages filled with decor we have bought and are waiting to use or saved from previous bashes.  We love them so much we even decided to style parties on the side!   So where do we go for the best supplies?  The ones that make Party City and Target unnecessary?  Read on to find out our faves...the BEST part?  Not only do they all have the most incredible selection and range but they are small, women owned businesses, so supporting them is even more important than ever.  Cute party and support small business?...IN!

Bonjour Fete- One walk into this Studio City, CA store and consider your wallet empty.  It is stunningly styled and laid out.  Rachel Huntington's curation of goods is other worldly.  You couldn't not have a beautiful party after a stop here.  It is hard to walk in and not want everything!  We are so happy to get to be inspired here!  But lucky you they have an online store too! And an Instagram that will excite your party girl/boy inside.

Shop Sweet Lulu- We found this fantastic shop (online for anyone not in Frankfort Illinois)  years ago before Instagram existed (yes there was a time in our day there was no Insta) and we have been getting supplies from Jessie Senese ever since!  Her prices are great, her selection is perfect and inspiring and she ships super fast!

Oh Happy Day- If you like incredible (yet easy) DIYs, spectacular Instagram accounts and seeing pictures that give you no choice but to smile and say "I want to do that" then you have seen Jordan Ferney's Oh Happy Day.   Her account and brick and mortar shop are the mecca for anyone throwing a bash of a life time.  She and her team are the queens and kings of incredible ideas and massive amounts of inspiration.

Get your party on!  Even in times like these where you just want to crawl under a rock putting a little thing together will make you smile!  And if you go to one of these shops you support small business and women!

A Few Things- Instagram Edition... Grills, gift wrap and getaways

Deep down the hole we go.  Down the rabbit hole that is Instagram.  While one of us has insomnia and the other wakes at 4am, the one night time ritual we both have in common is heading to the ol' explore page on Insta (like all of you) and finding new people, inspiration etc.  In this edition of AFT we dive into the hole on 3 things that get us all giddy....

1. Grills...no we are not talking the ones you automatically are thinking.  We are talking chic, sleek and sexy.  It may be the 90's gangsta rap lovin girls inside us but we can not get enough of Dolly Cohen's lovely mouth jewelry.  This French hygienist turned mouth jewelry designer has turned our nights upside down while we dreamt and designed these in our heads.  It seriously doesn't get much sexier

2.  Creative Gift Packaging- no tricks, no surprises just totally sweet, spirited and lovely wrapping

  1. The paper, the bells, the trimming?!  To say we are obsessed with this wrapping from Alder&Tweed is an understatement
  2. How gorgeous is this chic and festive wrapping from our favorite flower girl, FGLA?
  3. The sleek simplicity of Almost Makes Perfect's all white wrapping with (free) printable tag is so lovely
  4. Your recipient (and you) will have no choice but to smile when they get this bright and happy wrapping!  Head to the genius Oh Happy Day for so many how to's.

3.  Far away places we are dreaming to go but don't even know where they are.  We constantly send houses, places, spaces back and forth (among 1,847 other things) and usually it is just to get us giddy with inspiration and vibes.  Here are a few we are dreaming to get to (and one we actually know where it is) even if we don't know where they are

Right?!?!?!  Take us to all of theres...ASAP!   PS That chic, sexy, gorgeous, insane black A frame belongs to friends who are just as perfect as this stunning cabin suggests!

Tell us in the comments below what accounts you have found in the rabbit hole...  get lost!

She's Crafty... DIY gifts even we can make!

Soooo as you may have noticed we are amazing curators, but creators?... Not so much.  We can put together an amazing spread for a party, make that party look tip top, throw on a great outfit or style a room to the nines...but one thing we aren't the best at are DIY crafts.  We are not the Pinterest worthy mamas where every moment is good enough for Instagram, where every room in our house is dialed in and clean with a hand made pillow or DIY floating shelf, where every day off is filled with crafts and art to inspire the masses and where our cookies look like works of art.  But that is not to say we don't love a good DIY gift!

Every holiday season for the last few years my kids and I have made small (simple) gifts for family and friends to help bring back the spirit of gift giving.   I got nervous of it becoming a competition and over spending simply to impress. I felt like the holidays were losing their magic.  I wanted my kids to see the value of gift giving.  That is really IS the thought that counts.  One year we made snow globes from mini mason jars, the next we did animal tassel key chains and then home made spiced cashew milk.  All very simple for little and big hands to make, hard to mess up and filled with love.   So this year got us thinking... whats next?

Here are a couple of our big hits and possibly this years gift:

1.  Hazelnut spread-  I think this is the one this year...mainly because we can "taste test the heck out of it"

Raw Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

  • 1 cup raw hazelnuts.
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup.
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder.
  • 1/4 cup filtered water.
  • 2 tablespoons melted virgin coconut oil.
  • 1 teaspoon natural vanilla extract.
  • Pinch of Celtic sea salt.
  • Throw all into a blender and you are as good as gold.  Hint* Make an extra batch for yourself.
  • Put into individual mason jars (try not to eat it all)

2.  Animal key chains- The big hit.  We made gold with tassels for family/friends and pink for teachers.

Teacher gifts last year.

Teacher gifts last year.

What you will need-

Place your animals on a ton of old mail, newspaper outside.  Spray completely on side front and back of the animals.   When dry (a few hours if the air is dry) flip and spray the other side front and back.  Let dry overnight.   Screw the eye hook into the middle of the back of the animal until tight.  Thread keychain ring through eye hook and voila!

3.  Snow Globes- Not the most useful gift but really fun to make and give

DIY network

DIY network

Here's what you need-

  • Glycerine- This helps the glitter sprinkle down
  • Distilled water- Buy a jug at Target or your local store.  Tap water will cause the globe to rot
  • Small figures, trees, anything you want in your globes (we used sea animals)
  • Glitter- Regular size.  The fine glitter will not work
  • Epoxy- This will secure your figure and lid permanently

  1. Wipe inside of lid with alcohol and let dry
  2. Put epoxy on inside of lid and bottom of figure and press together.  Let dry (follow glue directions for dry time)
  3. When lid is dry (could be over night) fill the jar to the rim with distilled water and some sprinkles of glitter.
  4. Add 4-5 drops of glycerine
  5. Screw lid on tight and watch your globe sparkle

If you choose to give or not, do it all with love.  Do it all with intention.  Let's make this season filled with heart and warmth again.  We would love to get more ideas! What else can we make?
